Dear SQL enthusiasts,

Today we release EduPhant 2.0b2, a major upgrade to our text encodings savvy PostgreSQL client.

This application has now reached full maturity and you can read all about the many new features on the EduPhant product page which we are in the process of updating. If you still see the information about EduPhant 1.0b1, then please check again later.

EduPhant 2.0b2 is already available for download though. And it is free.

Enjoy it,

The Aliacta Team

Dear Customers,

We have added an Upgrade from the Internal to the Full Deployment pgSQL4RB License to our online shop. The price is EUR 180, which is simply the difference between both licenses, to which you have to add the Plimus transaction fee of EUR 12.

If you developed in-house solutions that you now want to make available commercially, then this upgrade makes this possible for you.

Thank you for your business,

The Aliacta Team

Dear PostgreSQL developers,

Today we released pgSQL4RB version 1.01, a small feature and maintenance update to our acclaimed PostgreSQL database classes for REALbasic.

- This release brings a work-around for the TCPSocket bug present in REALbasic versions 5.5 to 5.5.2b1. (This work-around will auto-disable itself from REALbasic 5.6 on to avoid that it would become a pgSQL4RB bug in a future release of REALbasic where the TCPSocket could perhaps be modified.) This bug in REALbasic 5.5 caused a stack overflow on disconnection by PostgreSQL. It should be fixed for the next release of REALbasic but people preferring to stay with REALbasic 5.5 or 5.5.1 will now have pgSQL4RB 1.01 to work without trouble. This was our main reason for releasing an update.

- Bug fix: with PostgreSQL v7.2 and below pgSQL4RB could wrongly name the encoding of the database. (It would correctly detect the encoding, but stick a wrong name on it in some cases.) In other words, even though this bug never affected pgSQL4RB's ability to automatically deal with text encodings, the pgSQLdatabaseEncoding property now always holds the proper encoding name.

- Enhanced esthetics of ListBox behavior when pgSQLcache.pgSQLautoheaders is True, most visible in more intelligent decision taking on when to automatically resize the columns and refresh the headers.

- When pgSQLcache.pgSQLautoheaders is True all controls capable of holding lists with headers like the ListBox or the pgSQLbevelButton will now refresh their headers or caption with proper column names even when no records were found.

Kind regards,

The Aliacta Team

Dear pgSQL4RB aficionados,

Today we release the final version 1.0 of pgSQL4RB! We had been seeding it and releasing it over our support mailing list in the past few months but today is the day of the public release!

The comprehensive 113 page manual -- on which we worked really hard -- is now completely finished and as a bonus we added an expansion pack to integrate the new REALbasic 5.5 ComboBox control.

Go to our download page and enjoy the power of PostgreSQL right now!

Best regards,

The Aliacta Team

PS: Our support mailing list has a steady activity now with many enriching exchanges of tips and techniques.

Dear PostgreSQL fans,

We are releasing Eduphant today. We meant to do it tomorrow but one of the channels through which we made the announcement already put the word out yesterday, so we quickly updated our site to avoid having people land on broken links.

Eduphant is freeware and we made it to help you learn SQL and PostgreSQL, or to use it as an experimentation environment and reference while programming for PostgreSQL.

We also have our own mailing list now for all our PostgreSQL related products. (Eduphant and pgSQL4RB for now, there's another one in the pipeline... ;-) Since we receive zero support requests after those of you new to our products get the hang of pgSQL4RB, and since we have not received any bug reports either, the list's current primary purpose is to keep you updated on new pgSQL4RB versions. We'll see how it will get used.

Our new mail server is almost totally configured. As a result, there are more e-mail addresses with which to contact us now.

Best regards,

The Aliacta Team

September 9, 2003

Dear customers and visitors,

These past few months have been very exciting at Aliacta. We've finished the pgSQL4RB "Final Candidate" two days early and started offering it for sale at the end of August. By the end of September the final version with a completely edited manual should be available.

We're gearing up for a few potentially troublesome days, as we're about to change our web and mail servers. We'll do our best to keep the address infoaliactacom alive during this time, but if you get some strange messages when trying to connect to our site or when sending us mail, then please try again later.

As you can see Aliacta is going through a lot of very exciting changes these days. If you are wondering what is changing exactly, we can give you a very simple answer: everything but the people. ;-)

We're changing our business model to include internet sales. Previously we only did business to business.

Because of this, we're also changing our web and mail servers as mentioned above.

We even changed the background color of these pages to this bright bleu. Ohhh!
(It was bright green for almost five years until we took our site down about two months ago and replaced it with basic, plain white pages. I guess we just can't live without color. ;-)

But most important of all, we changed the core technology on which we are building our software. As a result, we are completely rewriting our existing applications from scratch. Once we are done, we are sure you will love the changes to our applications and this alone will be rewarding enough for us after the huge effort we're going through now!

In the meantime, you can already check out pgSQL4RB if you're a developer. But even if you're not, keep checking this site because we will be adding more geekware soon! (And perhaps software that is not that geeky. You might be surprised...)

Warm regards,

The Aliacta Team

Dear AIC customers and visitors,

We have taken down our site to rebuild it over the next year. This will happen in parallel with the major rewrite of our flagship application. When that new version is ready, we will bring our site back up again for the announcement.

In the meantime, we are keeping the lid closed. Unless you already use our flagship application, you won't know what it is or does, until we release the new version.
Hush, hush... Mystery...

But, we won't leave this site without any action for a year! The geeks of AIC have taken over! It's going to be a place where we'll gradually add some geekware and other nifty utilities and applications, so please be sure to stop by often.

This year, geeks from all over the world will be welcome right on our home page. After that, we'll get our little separate cozy corner, as this site will focus again on AIC's flagship application's marketing and support. But in the meantime, WE (the geeks) RULE! ;-) Just click the "Download" link below.

Thank you for visiting,

The AIC Development Team.
